Handcrafted Ceramic Funeral Urn – Made in Canada, Quebec
This unique, simple, and elegant urn is adorned with a bird symbolizing kindness and serenity beside the loved one.
The artist, a pioneer of artisan urns in Quebec, masters two firing techniques: gas and raku. The latter, of Japanese origin, was once used during the Tea Ceremony, a ritual closely tied to Zen philosophy.
The raku process involves removing the piece from the kiln while still red-hot, placing it in the earth, and covering it with organic materials such as straw or sawdust. A lid is then closed over it, creating smoke that gives each urn a singular and unrepeatable finish.
Each piece thus becomes a unique work of art, blending tradition and remembrance.
